2019 Speed Mentor Bios

Speed Mentoring: International Edition features small-group mentoring sessions between local high school students and a variety of high-level professionals. This event gives students insight into international options following graduation and acts as a free-form networking a resource session. Speed Mentoring is a comprehensive, full-day event, which provides a meaningful jumpstart to participating students’ postsecondary journeys.

2019 Speed Mentoring Recap & Photos

In attendance were 113 high school juniors and seniors from 14 schools in the Anchorage, Eagle River, and Mat-Su area. 29 mentors, representing 12 different industries and 26 companies/organizations were able to share their experiences with the students. After the mentoring, 13 organizations participated by providing information at resource tables.

AKWorld’s 2019 Speed Mentoring was extremely successful! Over 265 students participated, with student representation from 17 different schools. For the first year, Speed Mentoring was able to reach the Mat-Su School district, with 123 students bused in from the Valley for the event. 75 mentors from over 25 different career fields were in attendance and excited to connect with and mentor students with their experience and advice. After the Speed mentoring sessions, students ate lunch while listening to the keynote address “Where in the World Could you Go? Volunteer Opportunities Abroad” with 4 experts reporting on their time spent in the Peace Corps and United Nations.
