Coming soon: Turkey’s Role in the Shaping of the New Middle East presented by Dr. Sinan Ciddi.

Dr. Ciddi is a professor and researcher at Georgetown University. In addition to Photo_Ciddi_2014serving as the Executive Director of the Institute of Turkish Studies, Dr. Ciddi has also established the Turkish Studies program at the University of Florida’s Center for European Studies. He is the author of several articles and book chapters on contemporary Turkish politics and foreign policy. His book titled “Kemalism in Turkish Politics: The Republican People’s Party: Secularism and Nationalism” focuses on the electoral weakness of the Republican People’s Party.

Dr. Ciddi’s lecture will cover the importance that Turkey has, and the role that he believes Turkey will play, in the future of not only the Middle East but also the effects that the country will have around the globe. As tensions grow in the Middle East, Turkey is not only taking in refugees and providing aid but going through political changes and challenges all at the same time. The evolvement of the political parties within the country in recent years has been one of the highlighted areas of discussion within the spectrum of Turkey’s future.
