Eva Nowotny
became ambassador of Austria
to the United States on
Sept. 22, 2003.
Ambassador Nowotny
previously served as
director-general of European
integration and economic
affairs at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (1999-2003),
ambassador to the United
Kingdom (1997-99) and to
France (1992-97), and
foreign policy advisor to
the federal chancellor
(1983-92).
In addition, she was a first
secretary at the Cultural
Institute of the Austrian
Embassy in Egypt (1975-78)
and a counselor in the
Austrian Permanent Mission
to the United Nations, where
she also served as vice
president of the Special
Political Committee of the
36th General Assembly
(1978-83).
Ambassador Nowotny holds a
doctorate in history and
German from the University
of Vienna and is married to
Thomas Nowotny.
