Karl Kim is the Executive Director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, one of seven national centers that comprise the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, under the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Dr. Kim is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaii, where he has also served as the chief academic officer (Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs). He holds appointments in the School of Architecture and the Center for Korean Studies. He is Editor of Accident Analysis and Prevention and has published more than 80 refereed journal articles on transport, environmental management, and urban and regional planning. He has been a Fulbright Scholar to Korea and Russia and has served as the Scholar-in-residence for the Western Governors Association. Dr. Kim received his undergraduate education at Brown University and doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
