Jennifer Loten began her position as Consul at the Consulate of Canada, Anchorage in August 2009, succeeding Karen Matthias. A career diplomat, Ms. Loten joined Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) in 1997. She has served at DFAIT’s Ottawa, Canada headquarters and overseas, notably as Canada’s Coordinator for the 4th Summit of the Americas, as Canadian representative to the Kimberley Process rough diamond certification scheme, and has contributed to government support for sound practices in Canadian international mining operations. Ms. Loten comes to Anchorage from her most recent assignment as Deputy Director for Canada U.S. Relations, at DFAIT headquarters.
Before joining the Government of Canada, Ms. Loten worked as Country Director in Ghana, West Africa, for a prominent Canadian non-governmental organization, and at Canada’s International Development Research Centre, an independent think tank dedicated to global sustainability. Ms. Loten holds a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge (UK). She comes to Anchorage accompanied by her husband, William McCarthy, and their four sons.
