Steve Solarz
was elected to the first of
nine terms in the U.S.
Congress in 1974. During his
nine terms in the House of
Representatives he became a
senior member of the Foreign
Affairs Committee where he
served as both the Chairman
of the Sub-Committee on
Africa and the Sub-Committee
on Asia and Pacific Affairs.
He also was a member of the
Intelligence Committee, the
Budget Committee, the
Education and Labor
Committee, the Merchant
Marine and Fisheries
Committee, the Post Office
and Civil Service Committee,
and the Joint Economic
Committee. After leaving
Congress in 1993, he helped
to found and currently
serves as a member of the
Board of the International
Crisis Group, which has
become the leading NGO in
the world in the field of
conflict prevention and
resolution.
