Flo Rooney
Flo is currently retired
from R&M Consultants, Inc. a
closely held multidiscipline
engineering firm created by
her husband and several
partners in l969. Flo became
an employee of R&M in 1972
and worked on marketing,
personnel matters, and legal
issues after she and her
husband opened the Anchorage
Office for the firm in 1972.
Flo is a graduate of Wayne
State University in
Literature, with minors in
History, French and Russian
(1962). She initiated
education courses at UAF in
l966 and again in l969 while
living in Fairbanks, and was
a student teaching class shy
of an MAT degree from the
University of Iowa before
returning once more to
Alaska in l969. The
opportunity that occasioned
subsequent relocation to
Alaska was the Alyeska
Pipeline Project which led
ultimately to the creation
of R&M Consultants. The
firm's subsequent selection
as geotechnical consultant
on the Northwest Gas
Pipeline Project required a
move to Irvine, California.
Flo studied law at Western
State University in
Fullerton, California and is
a member (now inactive) of
the California Bar. Flo and
Jim have two married
daughters and five grandsons
all of Anchorage. She has
been an active member of
World Affairs for
approximately 20 years. She
sits on this Board as well
as those of the Anchorage
Opera and Cyranos Off Center
Theatre. She previously
served on the Alaska
Worker's Compensation Board
for 8 years and was a member
of the Valdez Theatre
Conference Advisory Board
for four years. |
