Biography for Governor Svein
Ludvigsen
County of Troms, Norway
Since 2006, Svein Ludvigsen
has been the Governor of
Troms in the northern part
of Norway. Prior to being
Governor, from 2001-2005, he
was the Minister of
Fisheries and Coastal
Affairs and Minister of
Nordic Cooperation. Prior to
being Minister he was a
Member of Parliament between
1989 and 2001.
While he was in the
Parliament he served on the
Committees for Fisheries and
Shipping; Business and
Industry; Vice-President of
the Upper House; Vice Chair
of the Standing committee on
Scrutiny and Constitutional
Affairs. He also worked as
an election observer in
Russia and Croatia and
worked with the Parliament
of Bosnia and Herzegovina in
Sarajevo.
His public life started in
1972 when he became a member
of the Town Counsel in
Tromsø. He also started
working in the Conservative
Party (Høyre). He is married
with 3 children and one
granddaughter.
