Samuel
Duff Combs, AIA, NCARB,
Architect, President, Alaska
World Affairs
Council-2006-07: Sam Combs
is a lifelong Alaskan who
graduated from Dimond High
School in 1971 after serving
his final year there as
Student Body President. Sam
then went on to the
University of Oregon where
he majored in Architecture
and graduated with a 5 year
Bachelor of Architecture in
1977. He then returned home
to Anchorage where he began
serving his 3 year
Architectural Internship
with the firm he began his
Architectural career at age
16. Sam began attending
Alaska World Affairs Council
Events through Forum 49 in
1979 and ever since has been
an active member, board
member of Forum 49,
President of Forum 49, board
member of of the AWAC, Vice
President of the
AWAC-2005-2006 and now will
serve as President of the
AWAC for 2006-07. Sam’s wife
Jayna has been involved in
the AWAC since 1982 and
their daughter, Alexa (a
sophomore at the University
of Oregon in Art History)
has been attending AWAC
events since she was 16.
Sam’s parents Alex and
Muriel (Mindy) were longtime
members of the AWAC from the
1960’s on. The Alaska World
Affairs Council has been a
part of the Combs family
history for over 45 years.
