Native of Boston, Massachusetts. Graduate, Boston Latin School, traditional classical high school education. Two degrees (A.B. & M.A.), Boston University, 1948 & 1949. Ph. D., University of Wisconsin, 1953. Carnegie Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Michigan, 1961-62.
Military service, WWII, U.S. Army Air Corps, 1942-1946.
Faculty appointments at Indiana University, 1953, and Southern Illinois University, 1958.
Administrator (1959-1979): Southern Illinois University (Associate Dean of Instruction); Northern Michigan University (Vice President for Academic Affairs); Florida International University (Provost); Adams State College, CO (President); Chicago State University (President).
Senior Consultant, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, 1979-1981.
Came to Alaska in 1981 as Vice President, Frontier Companies of Alaska (transportation, civil construction and oil field services). Resigned in 1985 to found Charter College.
